“Decolonization never takes place unnoticed, for it influences individuals and modifies them fundamentally. It transforms spectators crushed with their inessentiality into privileged actors, with the grandiose glare of history's floodlights upon them." - Frantz Fanon, The Wretched of The Earth
Decolonization and revolution is not just about defeating a physical enemy. It involves dealing with the inherent trauma and mental health issues of being an oppressed person. Under capitalism, we are seen merely as pawns who’s worth is based on how much labor we can sell to make the elite more wealthy. And if you’re a colonized person, you carry the added trauma of been dehumanized for generations. It’s no wonder so many of us do not feel like full, living beings. A big part of defeating the fascist oppressors is recognizing your own humanity.
lyrics
That sinking feeling
Cycles of dread
Alienation
Anxious thoughts in your head
Loss of humanity
Loss of self
Generational trauma
Unhealed wounds
Of colonization
Dehumanization
Loss of humanity
Loss of self
Break the cycle
Cast off the yoke
Break the cycle
Take your life back
